SciMar: Privacy Policy

SciMar is built to keep your reading private. It runs on your device and does not use a language model in the cloud. There is no SciMar account and no analytics.

What stays on your phone

Your interest statements, saved papers, ratings and any PDFs you open.
The embedding model and all ranking. No document you read is sent anywhere.
The optional identity-guard text you enter never leaves the device.

What leaves your phone, and why

Public paper sources. To fetch the day's papers, SciMar queries public, keyless services (arXiv, OpenAlex) and, for citations, OpenAlex. These see only ordinary search requests and your IP address, as any web request does.
Model download. On first run the embedding model is downloaded once from Hugging Face.
Nothing else. SciMar sends no personal data, telemetry, or reading history.

Buying SciMar Pro

Payment is handled by Stripe; SL-Mar never sees your card details. To deliver your licence key we process the email address you give at checkout, and we email the key to it and keep a record of the sale (email + key + date) so we can re-send the key on request. We do not use your email for anything else. The licence key itself is verified offline on your phone and does not phone home.
